General Description:
Spend
a week in Iceland enjoying glaciers, geysers, waterfalls, lava fields,
black sandy beaches and the stark beauty of the Icelandic interior
on this activity-oriented tour. Enjoy time in Reykjavík for
shopping and exploring the capital. Immerse yourself in the natural
wonders of southern Iceland, including a visit to the magnificent
Skaftafell National Park, a boat tour on a glacial lagoon, bathing
at the Blue Lagoon and the famous sites of the Golden Circle. Iceland
Saga Travel and Highlander Tours are pleased to bring you this private

day - Tuesday: US
Leave on evening flight from Icelandair gateway (see below).
Day
1 - Wednesday: Reykjavík
Arrive in Iceland in the morning. Take the comfortable FlyBus from
Keflavík International Airport to your accommodations. Spend
the day relaxing or exploring the
capital city of Reykjavík. Optional tours include a whale
watching cruise or visit to the nearby countryside for a horseback
ride. Contact IST for your options. Overnight at a downtown Reykjavík
guesthouse.
Day
2 - Thursday: Reykjavík – Blue Lagoon – Reykjanes
Peninsula – Flúðir (B, D)
Pickup from your Reykjavík accommodations ay 9:00 AM by our
driver-guide. After a short sightseeing tour around Reykjavík,
we head to the Blue Lagoon on Reykjanes Peninsula. After a nice,
relaxing dip in the mineral-rich, warm lagoon, we drive along the
coast of Reykjanes, via Eyrabakki and to our farm guesthouse, Hestakráin
near Flúðir, where everyone can try out the world-famous
Icelandic horses. Dinner and overnight at the farm guesthouse.
Day 3 - Friday: Þjórsárdalur –
Landmannalaugar – Ófærufoss (B, D)
We head into the interior, via Þjórsárdalur
(Thjorsa river valley), across the Hrauneyjar and into Landmannalaugar.
Here we have the opportunity to bathe in natural hot springs or
walk around in one of Iceland’s most spectacular settings.
After a relaxing stop, we follow the path of the Eldgjá volcanic
crater canyon and hike to the waterfall Ófærufoss.
Later we arrive at our overnight lodging at Efri-Vík guesthouse
and cabins near Kirkjubæjarklaustur and settle in for an enjoyable
home-cooked dinner and overnight.
Day 4 - Saturday: Jökulsárlón –
Skaftafell – Núpsstaðir (B, D)
Today’s trip include visits to Jökulsárlón
with a boat ride on the glacial lagoon afloat with icebergs, the
Skaftafell National Park near Vatnajökull – Europe’s
largest glacier, the ancient farm at Núpsstaðir and black
lava beaches, including tractor-drawn wagon ride to the headland
nature reserve at Ingólfshöfði. We overnight once
again at Efri-Vík.
Day
5 - Sunday: The South Shore (B, D)
We head back westward through the desert of Mýrdalssandur,
visit the town of Vík, the beach at Reynisfjara, the glacier
tongue Sólheimajökull. There is an opportunity for an
optional snowmobile ride on the top of Mýrdalsjökull
or an ATV rides down at the lava beach. We included a visit to the
Folk Museum at Skógar and the famous waterfalls of Skógafoss
and Seljalandsfoss. We overnight back at Hestakráin farm
near Flúðir.
Day
6 - Monday: Golden Circle – Reykjavík (B)
On our way back to Reykjavík we visit the well-known natural
wonders like the waterfall Gullfoss, Geysir hot springs and Þingvellir
(Thingvellir) National Park. We end our day in Reykjavík.
Our last overnight is back at our guesthouse in downtown Reykjavík.
Day
7 - Tuesday: Reykjavík – Keflavík International
Airport (B)
Today is a free day in Reykjavík for sightseeing and relaxing.
We will board a bus in mid-afternoon for the trip back to Keflavík
International Airport for the late-afternoon flights back to the
US.

the US Icelandair gateways, FlyBus ticket for transport into Reykjavík
upon arrival in Iceland and back to airport on departure day, tour
transport and professional guidance in a large minibus suitable
and comfortable for use on Iceland’s interior highland roads,
accommodations with private facilities – 4 nights at country
farm guesthouses and cabins, 2 nights at Reykjavík downtown
guesthouse (optional hotel upgrade available upon request), 6 breakfasts,
4 dinners, horse ride, hay wagon tour, glacial lagoon boat tour,
entrance fees to the Blue Lagoon.
Not Included: Luggage porterage usually not available
at accommodations. Meals not identified by B – breakfast and
D – dinner. Travel insurance is available upon request from
IST’s insurance company – TravelGuard International.
